We really enjoy making jewellery for our customers and we thought it might be useful to produce some general advice about how to keep your silver jewellery in tip-top condition.
At Beautiful Nice all of our
jewellery is made from 99.9% fine silver, meaning that it is not mixed with an
alloy of other metals like sterling silver (which is 92.5% silver).
Although
hardwearing, silver is a relatively soft metal and will mark, scratch and dent
if it comes into contact with other hard surfaces. Silver will also naturally tarnish over
time.
There are a
number of things that will accelerate the aging process of silver, these
include some everyday items like; soap, perfume, cleaning products and contact
with copper.
In order to
reduce the aging and wear of your silver we have a couple of top tips for you:
- when you aren’t wearing your jewellery, we recommend you store it on a piece of aluminium foil
- make your jewellery the last thing you put on in the morning and the first thing you take off at night
We also recommend
that you remove your jewellery before:
·
going
to bed
·
showering
·
undertaking
any cleaning activities
·
applying
or removing make up
·
going
swimming
Some people
can react with silver and it is believed that an acidic skin or a diet high in
meat can accelerate the tarnishing of silver.
If your
jewellery does begin to tarnish then giving it a good polish with a silver
cloth will help to keep it in its original condition. We don’t recommend using any type of cleaning
dip as this will strip your jewellery and remove any antiquing that has been
applied, for example, finger/hand/footprint definition or the blackening of any
engraving.
We want you
to enjoy your piece of jewellery for years to come, so if for any reason a
silver cloth doesn’t remove the tarnish then we will be more than happy to
professional polish any items, purchased from us, free of charge (as long as you cover the
associated postage and packing charges).
Love
Beautiful
Nice xx
